'Tampon' shaped larvae in pond
We have a very small pond in our garden that is somewhat stagnant but we do top up with fresh water regularly when we're out with the hose. Nothing large lives in it as we decided to turn the pond over to nature. There are hundreds of tadpoles but we notice the other day larvae swimming near the surface, but they are tampon shaped. The large end is near the surface and the 'string' wiggles. They must be no more than 1cm in length and are white but I can't find anywhere on the net that will tell me what they are.

Try looking up Rat-tailed Maggots, larvae of the drone fly, Eristalis tenax.
