| | | Unidetified Fish Hi, i normally photograph birds but i came across these two fish while out walking. i Dont know much about fish, could anybody help me identify them.
The first one was swimming in a small group against the river current.
The second one looks dead floating on its side.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you |

| | | Re: Unidetified Fish Thanks for your reply Naturenutz,
i forgot to point out that the second pic wasnt taken in the same place as the first, it was taken in a former Gravel pit turned into a lake. Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for the help. |

| | | Re: Unidetified Fish I would agree that the fish in the top picture is a Chub, however the fish in the lower picture is a little harder to identify. |

| | | Re: Unidetified Fish Undoubtedly a chub. The large scales are typical, along with orange pelvic fins, and a black edge to the tail. The thick white lips along the large mouth are often the first thing you see with chub. Dace are smaller and far more delicate. At this time of year chub are often fairly easy to see.
How large was the second fish? From what I can see, probably a carp, especially if it is a large sized fish, but it is floating high, so has probably been dead for some time and become discoloured. |

| | | Re: Unidetified Fish As already said top picture is a Chub, the bottom picture is a Carp and by the looks of it, it's a Common Carp. Looking around the tail area it is fully scaled and the Common Carp is fully scaled. |
