Sea Lamprey

I remember listening to a radio prgram a few years ago about Sea Lampreys spawning near Boroughbridge in Yorkshire. I think it was in June, but I can't remember.

Earlier this year I saw my first river lamprey, and it made me want to go see the larger marine lamprey.

I emailed Boroughbridge council a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything back yet.

Does anyone here know about where and when to see marine lampreys near Boroughbridge? Or indeed anywhere in Yorkshire?

I can't help re Yorkshire but in south Cumbria the Sea Lampreys spawn in the first two weeks of July, normally round about the 4th - Independence Day.

I watched River Lampreys spawning two weeks ago. Good luck with your quest.

Suggest you contact the Environment Agency fisheries guys in the York office.

As The Woodman has suggested the Agency would be your best bet or the local fishing club.

Sea Lamprey are seen around these parts mostly in June, i believe they where seen from Boughrood Bridge over the Wye on 10th June last year.

I'm lucky enough to work at a place where we have a "land locked population" (though some what artificial) and we are currently seeing Sea Lamprey on a daily basis, they are all roughly about 6inch at the moment. We even had one attached to the bottom of a sailing Dinghy.

I never did get round to those sites you gave me on the River Leven for sea lampreys a couple of years back. I really must do that one day. So much to do, so little time!
