ID pls for two small insects on pond
I'd love to know what this is please - which zooms around on the surface...


and also this tiny thing near the edge the other day, which I wasn't sure if it was making a thread or drowning, so I carefully hooked it out on a stem, and it seemed to vanish/ sprang off? Any help warmly appreciated!

The beetle on the surface is a whirligig beetle. Hours of enjoyment spent watching whirligigs beckon!
