| | | Missing frog spawn We had quite a bit of frog spawn in our village nature reserve pond last week (though it's less than usual due to the weather, I assume), but a lot has disappeared or been "scattered". We do get visits from mallards and herons - would they take frog spawn? I thought it would be too glutinous for them to eat, though the heron certainly comes for the frogs. What else might have taken it? It's not likely to be human disturbance, by the way. |

| | | Re: Missing frog spawn Are you sure it hasnt just hatched? also people may have taken it. Birds tend to feed more on the tadpoles although im sure they will feed on them when they are in the spawn. Has some of the spawn survived? |

| | Re: Missing frog spawn I did notice on my pond that the spawn got scattered when the ducks had been there, it happened when they landed and took off. I don't think the ducks ate any of it, but you can't see it so well now, 'cos it seems to have sunk a bit, and collected around the plants....Posie.. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
