| | | Re: Grayling, River Wye, Bakewell Hi
The grayling were electrofished out in huge numbers up until 1984. Grayling are no longer electrofished. In 2003 a strict no kill policy came into force on the river in-hand including on the Wye through Bakewell. In addition no artificial stocking has taken place since that date.
The grayling are doing very well. The river is blessed by their numbers and has all year classes. They are very visible during spawning, when they gather in April and May in the shallow, fast runs including above the Sheepwash bridge. Outside of this spawning time they are not so obvious to those without the ability to see through the surface film.
The ochre is with us now, and a google search has lead me here, but the river does not suffer any ill effects that can be proven.
