OK I have just about got my head around the identification of the 4 British species of backswimmer but have not a clue where to start with these!

| | | Re: Lesser Waterboatman ID Hi Serendipity, I know what you mean. I've got a little book but the corixidae (of which I am sure this is one) are vv difficult to speciate (It's "they all look the same to me" territory) I would venture to say Sigura spp. but no doubt a corixid nichemeister (with superhuman powers ) will give you a more authoritative ID to species level. Should do since it is a very nice photo

| | | Re: Lesser Waterboatman ID The easiest way to ID most of the smaller Corixids is from the shape of the male front tarsi or palae. Unfortunately this looks to be a female, the palae are quite narrow............ |

| | | Re: Lesser Waterboatman ID Thanks Matt! Ive spent hours trying to key it out and looking at pics of all the UK species only to confuse myself even more. still if I carry on small things may start to click into place and it might get a bit easier to ID some of these little blighters! if it was all to easy there wouldnt be as much fun!
