Red Leg Disease in frogs.

A few years ago my pond was a very happy place...several frogs lived there producing Tadpoles by the hundred.

Then they started dieing,an I was fishing out dead bodies quite regularly...they all had red legs.

Last year I only had about three visitors,and there was no frog spawn.

Yesterday I looked at the pond (it was frozen over) and I saw a dead frog just under the surface of the ice.

How long does the infection of Red Leg Disease stay in a pond?....will it go on infecting any other Frogs who find their way here?

I would be grateful if anyone with experience of this could advise me.

The disease is less prevelant in winter, it could be that your frog has died of natural causes and is not linked to the previous outbreak of the virus. Natural mortality is high in winter. It is a bacterial infection that can occur within the pond or spread from frog to frog. I think the best thing to do is get in touch with froglife the organisation that deals with this.
