| | | Re: Sponge It looks like dead 'dead mens' fingers' (Alcyonium digitatum). When the polyps are retracted they go quite rubbery and I've seen photos before of them on the strand line looking just like this.
Google images are a bit rubbish at finding good photos of stranded ones, but you might have better luck than me! |

| | | Re: Sponge Agree with Zan - definitely the soft coral Alcyonium digitatum. They get ripped off rocks in bad weather; the tiny light brown "spots" are where the polyps emerge.

| | | Re: Sponge they look great when alive covering ship wrecks, never got a picture of them that im truly happy with as they seem to lose some of the quality of being at depth looking at them
