| | | Crayfish Licence?? Hey!
I've been looking at applying for a new job lately and need to get some Protected Species Licences -
Does anyone have any ideas on where I can get training for either my GCN or Crayfish licence?
I'd be grateful for any advice/courses!
Thanks

| | | Re: Crayfish Licence?? contact some local consultants and volunteer your services in exchange for handling training - though it is the wriong time of year for GCN as they will be hibernating. Or contact your local wildlife trust on the same basis - This kind of networking will also help you build contacts and find work.
Gill catton would be the one to ask for detail , but she is away for a bit - In the mean time I dont know where you are in the country but I can put you in touch with consultants in the MK area who cover the south east if thats any help. Pm me if you dont want to put your location etc on the boards.

Malham Tarn Field Centre (01729 830331) run a crayfish course which leads to a crayfish licence. They normally run them in Aug Sept time so I think you have missed the course for this year. |

| | | Re: Crayfish Licence?? Sorry for being a bit slow on the uptake but I am curious what are Cray Fish licences for and why does anyone need them?
My Grandson was given a Cray Fish for a pet by a friend of mine, should my Grandson not be keeping the Cray Fish without a licence?

Wilbur | The Freshwater or White Clawed Crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes is a Protected Species. It is the only crayfish native to Britain and is in severe decline due to a crayfish plague that is carried by other species that have been released into Britains waterways. You need a licence to survey for and handle them.
For more information try Action plan for Austropotamobius pallipes or other related sites!
Hope that this is useful
