| | | level pond Hi i have just dug out a pond 4m x 5m and .7mt deep in the deepest part. but i have my suspicions that the sides arnt level. are there any ways to build the sides up to make the pond level before laying in the liner. i had the idea of putting in the the liner and fillling to the lowest point and then placing/packing the soil around the edge and filling with water and keep doing that all the way round till the pond was level.
Does any body have any other ideas
this is a below ground pond. |

Just a basic idea - use puddle clay to shore up irregularities when its filled and you can use stone to cover the exposed liner if necessary too.
Dont forget of course to build in a small creatures gradual incline escape route.
Cheers
Ken

You could use this to establish your levels across the axes of your pond; alternatively use a pece of timber and a full sized level.

| | | Re: level pond We had problems levelling our pond, which is almost the same size as yours. It's hard to explain what we did, but I'll have a go.
We knocked a post into the centre until the top of it was the level with the top of the pond - that was probably the hardest thing to get right. Then we balanced a long, straight, piece of wood on it, one that was long enough to reach the edge of the pond. We balanced a spirit level on top of that piece of wood and checked all round the edge of the hole.
We got it almost right, when it was filled with water we backfilled the few low spots. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
