Signal Crayfish in Sussex

Hi Folk

I wonder if anyone can help. I would like to trap the Signal Crayfish as I understand they tatse great but I don't know where to find them. I live on the South Coast between Brighton and Worthing. Does anyone know if there are any Signals in this or the surrounding area?

I tried phoning the EA but they claim they are not allowed to tell me if or where the Signal Crayfish has been found in this area!

Have a look at the thread about 6/7 below this one in the Water Life forum. LOts of good arguments there and the legal position too.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have looked at the Signal Crayfish thread and read virtually every post but I couldn't see any reference to Crayfish Locations in my area.

I will be applying for a licence as soon as I can find out where they Signal Crayfish are.

Some of the Angling sites have info - try looking up some in your area (unless you already have of course!)

Appreciate the suggestion but I have already tried that. Not sure if the Angling Clubs are reluctant to highlight the prescence of Crayfish or they simply are not a problem down here but none of the Local Clubs seem to mention them.

Bit of a catch 22. I can't apply for a licence without the Water Owners consent but I don't know where the Crays are so I can't contact the Water Owner.

Just have to hope someone in this area knows of their whereabouts.
