| | | What on Earth......? Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset Hi,
Came across these really bizarre looking 'things' this summer in Kimmeridge Bay.
Can anyone tell me what they are?
Cheers

| | | Re: What on Earth......? Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset In the Middle ages people thought they changed into geese...Found this quote
... There was an old myth that Barnacle Geese came from barnacles which is where their name comes from. Barnacles look a bit like Barnacle Geese in colour and you could see people thinking that they were tiny Barnacle Geese. The geese were never seen during the same season so people thought they were developing under the sea during this time.
I think they are crustaceans.

| | | Re: What on Earth......? Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset Strangely enough, County Kerry is the only place I've ever come across them. Came across a buoy that someone had dragged out on a remote slipway and it was covered with them.
It might appear that they attach themselves to floating objects for a life near the surface rather than at depth like the common Barnacle. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
