| | | Breeding Fish Hi, I've just gone to my pond this morning to discover baby fish, each about 2cms long. To be completely honest, I haven't really got a clue about fish...have given up on the fish tank as I keep killing them, so am absolutely amazed that my pond fish have survived a year and to top things off...have had babies!!! I'm so excited!!!!
At the moment I can only see three but I would be absolutely made up if they survived! Is there anything I can do to give them a better chance of survival??
Thanks |

| | | Re: Breeding Fish Hi chickchick, If your parent fish and others in the pond are small three to four inches long there is a good chance the baby's will survive they just need some sort of cover [eg] plants weed etc to keep them away from the others, But if you have larger fish they will eat them, But usually if the eggs have survived this is a good start, We cannot keep eggs or baby's as we have to large and to many fish, But our Friends have smaller gold fish and they are breeding all the time, good luck, aland. |

| | | Re: Breeding Fish Sorry Mr Woodman, haven't any idea what sort of fish they are...apart from gold!! See, I said I was useless!!
To Aland, thanks very much for your optimistic response...I do have some cover within the pond and just 2 fish in it, both between 3 & 4 inches long so hopefully they have some hope of survival...as long as the frogs and toads don't have them for dinner!!
Thanks again! |

| | | Re: Breeding Fish Hi Chickchick, It sounds like you have every chance of multiplying the stock in your pond, If you feed a little Fish flake every few days you should start to see a difference in the baby's they will get to know and come to you, they will be black at first it takes over a year for them to change to their proper colour, aland. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
