| | | Wildlife Container Pond Size Hi,
I am planning to build/buy a wildlife pond. I am planning on it being a container, what size is neccessary for amphibians and dragonflies? Thanks. And my garden faces north, does this matter? Anybody got any links to where I could buy one?

| | | Re: Wildlife Container Pond Size Thanks, just a few more questions;
Is it necessary for them to be in a sunny position?
Is it feasible and wise to bury the barrel pond? |

| | | Re: Wildlife Container Pond Size yes, to a sunny spot and if your going to bury it it might be cheeper to use a small liner.. |

| | | Re: Wildlife Container Pond Size So lets see if I have it right:
Dig the hole (if I decide to bury it)
Line the barrel
Put in aquatic compost
Fill the barrel with tap water
Wait a few days
Plant the plants (Native, oxygenating)
Wait for life.
I'm not sure if I'll get any amphibians though as the nearest place with them is about 2 miles away. Will I get any? I have never seen a frog or toad anywhere near here. And is it feasible to have White Water Lily (Nymphaea alba) in a barrel pond? Is there a dwarf cultivar/variety?

| | | Re: Wildlife Container Pond Size I have a small waterlily dwaf variety in mine I didnt plan for frogs to go in mine it just happened that way.
yep the rest is about right lots of oxygenating plants everything else will find its own way there.
the compost will come out of the plants you put in so I wouldn't add anymore.. |
