So I just started a second thread about my pond regarding Azolla, but thought I'd post updates in case anyone was interested to this original.
Our pond has now been out for almost a year, just one year and its already a mecca for wildlife in our fairly water-barren area.
We love it, its great to sit next to and watch all the invert activity and a great place to chill out next to.
The birds love it, drinking and bathing until they can't fly properly (city life gets you grubby).
The bugs and stuff love it, we've got water mites, hydra, tubifex, leeches, flatworms, daphnia, mayfly, damselfly, mossies (predictably), hoverflies, bumblebees (drinking), many other flies and a whole host of things yet to be identified.
Snails and slugs thrive in the wet patches around, but the tadpioles came from a friends pond nearby who wanted to get rid of some (she was going to dump them because she was worried she had too many!!).
All the plants are thriving, except the yellow-flag iris, which seems to keep tilting?
