| | | Rudd?
I saw some of these fish in the River Lea at Batford near Harpenden, Herts., today. Not knowing much about the subject, I'm guessing that it may be a Rudd (but when I started a similar thread last year, I got lots of fascinating info about Roach-Rudd Hybrids). |

| | | Re: Rudd? Thanks Dogghound - I said I didn't know much about the subject! On my very few fishing expeditions when I was a boy in the 1960's I think I only ever caught very tiny rudd, roach and perch. They are really just names to me now, though I think I remember that Perch are striped.
I was just impressed with how clear the water was, and pleased that my camera was able to take a reasonable shot.
Thanks again! |

| | | Re: Rudd? Its a good shot Pete. These fish are typical river fish with their slender shape although they do occur in stillwaters. Rudd are more adapted to stillwater and are thinner and deeper (more compact). They also have deep red fins. Also the eyes are smaller and not so far forward. |

| | | Re: Rudd? to be honest there aren't too many rudd left in britain,
as is said before your pic is a chub, the best way to tell from that angle is the head is quite broad, also if you watch them in real life when they open their mouth you will see big fat white lips,
they grow to nigh on 10lbs in weight in the lea also, which is 3times the size of any roach or rudd that you are ever likely to seein britain. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
