| | | Rock salmon? My local Tesco is selling Rock Salmon and I bought a little for a fish pie some time ago but didn't like it at all.
I knew it was some kind of renamed Dogfish, but Googling it throws up this alarming page: Rock Salmon
I'm not convinced this is what Tesco are selling, I think it is probably Bull Huss, which apparently is one of the few fish increasing in numbers.
Can anyone shed any more light on this "Rock Salmon" confusion, and what, exactly, is what? |

| | | Re: Rock salmon? I always thought that rock Salmon usually referred to Bull Huss or Common Dogfish, at least round here anyway! Both species are extremely common off the coast of South Wales (I seem to catch nothing but doggies on sea fishing trips)...so I hope that's what they're using! |

| | | Re: Rock salmon? Hello Doggle, when I was a lad and worked in a `wet` fish shop as a saturday job, monkfish was called rock salmon and dogfish was called rock eel. I found out later that some shops reversed these terms just to add to the confusion ...Bob

| | | Re: Rock salmon? Thanks to both, seems lots of things are called Rock Salmon.
Its a pity the alarming Shark Trust website makes no mention of this, it doesn't do its credibility a lot of good IMHO. |
