| | | White Worm Like Thing in Pond Hello, We have a wildlife pond which my partner built last year, in it we have have now got frogs/toads and some little white worm thing which really wriggle around and we dont know what these are. They are about 3/4 inch long clear like body but you can see the white line inside, on the outside it is like green stuff on it. Also the worm like thing darts out of its body?? every now and again. Being completely new to all this we just dont have a clue what it is. Can anyone help? |

| | | Re: White Worm Like Thing in Pond You can see them so they are just below the surface I think, you dont have to disturb them to see them wriggle, dont actually like going near pond as I dont like frogs and creepy crawly things lol. Its my partner who is into all this. Hope this helps as he would like to know if they are good to have or not?? |

| | | Re: White Worm Like Thing in Pond Without the benefit of a photo, it sounds as if they might be mosquito larvae.
There's no image of them I can find in the WAB library but have a look at this www.sacsplash.org/cimages/MosquitoLarvaSm.jpg
are yours similar to this? |

I don't get the worm thing darting out of the body. Are you saying they are encased, like Caddis-fly larvae?

| | | Re: White Worm Like Thing in Pond It sounds like a rat-tailed maggot - the larva of a drone fly iirc. The thing that darts out is the breathing siphon.
Lovely name, I know. LOL
