Whirligig beetles

I wanted to ask whether other people were missing their whirligigs this year? They're among my favourite pond life, but though everything else seems to be back after the winter, those little silvery chaps are AWOL from our north Shropshire pond. We haven't done anything to alter the balance of the water, I don't think.

High Vole-woman. I recently went to a new (to me) LNR and at the very moment I noted their absence I spotted a couple! I wouldn't be too concerned tbh... Even if they have left or died out I am sure more will be back if the conditions are right!

I did find a lovely dragonfly-larva case on one of my reeds this morning. My husband said a few days ago he'd seen a dragonfly on the lawn that looked at though it was drying out its wings.
