| | | Fish and Frogs? Hi,
I have just finished building my new pond (never had one before)
I really want to attract as much wildlife as possible - particularly frogs.
I have introduced fish into the pond and love watching them. Then someone mentioned that frogs might not choose the pond because of the fish?
Then someone else said that they have no frogs, and they believe it is due to the dragonfly larvae? Yesterday it was a beautiful sunny day - and lots of dragonflys were laying in my pond.
Any help/advise re this would be appreciated.
Thankyou |

| | | Re: Fish and Frogs? Hi elemental,
Our pond has been around for about 15 years, must have everything in it, damsel, mayfly, backswimmers, skaters, frogs, toads, koi, goldfish, newts, as long as there's enough hidey holes for the tadpoles some will survive, [koi are the worst for eating them, but newts devour a fair few as well].
Good luck,
patience is a virtue with ponds.
Max.

| | | Re: Fish and Frogs? Oh thanks Max,
Patience is not one of my best virtues but I am willing to wait for them!
I just love seeing their little heads popping up in the water.
Thats really encouraging, thank you. |

| | | Re: Fish and Frogs? We have had both fish and frogs, mortality rate was high due to Grass-snake and Heron. The fish were fed Koi sticks twice a day and were never seen to take much else except when the "stream" bed was disturbed and freshwater shrimp washed into the pond. Our pond brought birds, animals and insects into what was previously a desert, go for it, you can always dig another pond for the fish
