| | | frog spawn I created a pond last year to help the local newts and frogs that are very common in our village. My children cant understand why the newts and frogs are not using the pond and are very excited to see any movements. I was hoping to find some frog spawn to place in the pond to encourage them to return but have no idea where to find some and when they spawn. Also I dont know if its a good idea to do it. Any advice |

| | | Re: frog spawn Hello Graeme and welcome to WAB.
It can take a while for amphibs to find a new pond, nothing to worry about yet. Please bear in mind that it is illegal to take spawn from the wild. It's not illegal to transfer spawn from other garden ponds, but it is generally considered undesirable because of the risk of spreading disease.
Give it time. For now, concentrate on making sure your pond is well stocked with the oxygenating and marginal plants that form the basis of a healthy ecology.
Any photos?

| | | Re: frog spawn I built our pond just about a year ago, I knew there were toads in the garden and hoped they might use it to spawn in this year however, we only had about 50 toad spawns on one string although we did have 6 large clumps of frog spawn. No newts as yet but there are great crested newts very close by. |

You've done a great thing providing them a new home - they'll find it eventually!
