| | | mosquito larvae I've spent far too much time peering into my pond again today, the neighbours must think I'm weird (ok, they already do )
Any way, there were hundreds, it seemed, of these things in there today, very small, between 1-4mm long & <1mm wide. I think they're mosquito larvae, can anyone confirm?

| | | Re: mosquito larvae Hi GOC,
Yes they definately are mozzie larva - like you I spend hours gazing into me pond - which I have only just enlarged and refilled - and I too noticed thousands of those little gits - I popped out and got ten goldfish to gobble em up - after which - the heron will take the goldfish - Job done! You could chuck a couple of trout in your pond - they love the larve - and when the mozzies are all eaten - you can eat the trout!!! heh heh heh

| | | Re: mosquito larvae I don't think goldfish or trout were what I had in mind when i planned my small, garden wildlife pond And besides which, I'm not looking to get rid of them, just interested in learning what they are

| | | Re: mosquito larvae Don't worry Claire something will be along for a nice tasty snack..
You will get lots of flying insects over the summer coming in the pond.
Maybe if your lucky the odd newt or two they will take care of the mozzies..
Your pond is new the prey come in first then the predators move in....
Its all great stuff watching it all unfold before your eyes..
ps
Whatever you do don't put fish in it.

| | | Re: mosquito larvae oh no, no fish here
I'm not at all bothered about mosquito larvae, I'm quite happy with whatever or whoever want to take up residence, simply wanted to know what they were
