| | | Rockpooling sites near Southend? I have a friend who is looking for a decent rocky shore to explore that is near Southend.
I have suggested Winchelsea beach to him but I wondered whether there are any other sites that might be worth him going to?

| | | Re: Rockpooling sites near Southend? Given that most of the land around Southend is made up of alluvial deposits and is very flat, I think you will be very hard pressed to find any hard rock deposits on the Southend shoreline, ergo, no rockpools.
From experience and memory, most of the shoreline is very muddy flats, even if you move further out in the estuary past Thorpe Bay. If your friend does try walking the shoreline around Thorpe Bay and happen upon a small black plimsole, please let me know, as I lost one there about fifty years ago.

Try under the pier, if i remember correctly from trips there 40 years ago as a child pools form around the pier legs and lots of creatures make there home on the legs. apart from that I think they will have to travel some way from Southend to find true rock pools |

Mud is the main feature-and the salt marshes!!
