Cheers anyway | Whoooops everyone has forgot your question regards the Medway (Not my area unfortunately)
perhaps since NOz is off down the Explosives shop getting some TNT or Atom bombs to blow his local stream to smitherines ( Not illegal he thinks) with all his drunken mates, where the local Copper hopefully wont spoil the fun asking them to keep the noise down, has made everyone forget, no wonder he catches most of his Dicky birds in rivers

Have you tried asking the local DEFRA officers about signal crayfish in the Medway?
Alternatively speak to local fishing/angling clubs that use the stretch of river you are interested in. They'll know if the signal crayfish are there.
Cannot see any point in posting on here about a location that many Forum users would not know? Use your noddle a bit.

| | | Re: Signal Crayfish I'm going to be in the Leeds area on the 18th June, and was thinking of trying to see my first Signal Crayfish. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good spot for me to get good results with a bit of bacon for bait. |

Will try and use my noddle and not ask silly questions on forums in future
Have actually had some crayfish since last posting - a friend managed to catch some and we had a sample.
We did the whole purging thing for 24 hours (changing water every couple of hours) prior to cooking them, but most still had a black sand vein.
Does anyone know if this is meant to go completely clear, also is it a problem if you eat it if it is black? - we were very fastidious and picked it out of all of ours.
Obviously would prefer to just be able to suck the meat out of the tails rather than picking away at it to get a pristine piece of fish..... which is a lot of work for not a lot of meat!
Anyway - thanks for reading! cheers

| | | Re: Signal Crayfish I have recently moved to a house adjacent to a stream and small lake. Neighbours tell me that up until the last 3 years there used to be a migration of hundreds of toads every year for mating. Since I moved in a year ago I have not seen or heard a single toad (or frog for that matter).
I have noticed that the stream is absolutely heaving with signal crayfish. They are under every stone and they are so bold that 6 inch crays can be seen walking around the riverbed during broad daylight.
Does anyone know whether it is likely that the crayfish are responsible for the demise of the amphibians? Or are there other causes?
I should add that there is no new development and I am not aware of any other environmental changes. |

Signal Crayfish will eat the Frog/Toad spawn so it is quite probable they are a big contributor to the amphibian demise in that area
If you are not in a red zone get some traps and licences and catch them at least you will help and have a good feed as well, maybe even earn a few quid
It is illegal to move Frog spawn to different areas or you may have been able to re-establish the Frogs & Toad's after some major removal of Signal Crayfish
