| | Leeches in Garden Ponds Can anyone help me about leeches in my garden pond. they do not seem to attack my fish but just found a large frog absolutely covered in leeches and quite dead. Is there anything that can be done or is this just part of pond life? Please help. |

Please help. | Absolutly part of a pond i'm afraid, it may well have been that the frog was very sick or dead before the leeches got hold of it too. Leeches may not be as pretty as fish or frogs but they are as much a part of the system it seems to me .....
sorry I can't say anything more postive.... |

| | | Re: Leeches in Garden Ponds I've had a pond with frogs and leeches for over 10 years and never noticed this. Frogs spend a lot of time out of the water so I doubt leeches would stay attached. I wonder if the frog died first? |

| | | Re: Leeches in Garden Ponds Its very much likely that the frog was already dead, they play an important part in cleaning up carrion from ponds which would otherwise spread disease and reduce the water quality. Everything plays its part. |

| | | Re: Leeches in Garden Ponds I used to be quite scared of leeches, but when you study them, they're actually quite fascinating beasties and they have a beautiful way of swimming if you are lucky enough to see this.
