| | | where are all the fish..... So we have all these lovely anglers on this site, where are all the pictures of our native fish?
I have just uploaded a terrible pic of sticklebacks because I was surprised not to find one already on the site.
Why not take a small photography tank out with you sometime (yes I know you already have a ton of other things to carry.... ) and see if you can get any good pics - even of tiddlers like stickleback.
I don't know that I could identify many of our native fish apart from the obvious like, pike or perch or trout. Some pictures and id pointers would really help .
Just a thought |

| | | Re: where are all the fish..... Gill, you have touched on a point of irony here. You see, in spite of the inclination of some people (not, I hasten to say, prevalent on this forum) to vilify anglers along with others involved in countryside activities, the truth is that nobody but anglers is interested in the fish for their own sake.
There is no lack of photos of fish on the bank, but as Jonny says most of them would not fit in a tank - and those that do, we would not want to photograph.
Years ago I showed a 4lb chub to a non-angling friend who habitually swam in the River Wharfe at the place I caught it. He was amazed that such a (to him) huge creature existed in the river and I don't think he ever swam there again. |

Come to think of it, it might be better not to encourage this thread - the site might be inundated with fish photos. I could find a couple of dozen myself, but I don't like to boast. (Did you catch that, Lincs? By the way, you missed the important bit from your captions, i.e. the weight) |

The challenge, here would be to capture the fish in it's natural environment and I think that is what Gill was putting over. I'm a member of Great Linford Lakes in your neck of the woods Eeyore. Quite often when we were ready to pack up and head home we would walk the banks of the great ouse which runs through the complex. The water is crystal clear and on a bright day with polaroid sun glasses and at the right angle you could see the resident fish reasonably well, well enough to determine what type of fish they are, and I'm sure with the use of polarised filters these fish could be photographed well enough to be posted here, who knows we may have some underwater photographers out there ................... Bye the way Lincs nice piccies, I mainly fished Carp but the Barbel is in my view the perfect fish, beautiful. hazzard a guess. 8-10 lb

My response was to Aireheads worry that wab become inunadated with fish pics - if we limited it to natural environment pics, which we do with every other species, then the size of our "catch" will be much smaller and more manageable.

And also i didn't include any weights because its not a thread about that, i only posted the pics so people could see what they looked like. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
