Eeyore, I know we are having discussion elsewhere, and canoists have been mentioned. I hope you are not thinking of inviting scuba divers to photograph the fish I am trying to catch! |

| | | Re: where are all the fish..... Quite some time ago I posted a photo of the grey mullet in the Otter estuary.I have not got the type of camera some have so therefore no filters. It was in a very shallow part of the river so therefore quite muddy as they catch there food I believe in the mud.The photo wasnt really very clear but was allowed as there were not any others there.Last week a came across a couple of lads quite a way up the river fishing and I stopped to watch. The youngest had a bite and was bringing it in.I was fascinated and asked him what it was.It was the grey mullet and I expressed great surprise that it was some way up from the estuary and in the main river. He told me they can be found even farther up.I was surprised as I know nothing of fish but did know it was a sea fish.Anyway,to get back to my point he landed the fish and I asked if I may photograph it before he put it back(It was his very first mullet) with the intention of posting it.I have been reluctant to do this as I didn't know if it would be acceptable as it was not in the water.I am glad to see this thread as now can someone tell me if it would be acceptable then I will post it.By the way I was very impressed with the gentleness shown to this fish by the young lads that had caught it and at the skill of landing it despite their excitement of having even caught it. |

| | | Re: where are all the fish..... According to my book, the grey mullet is a freshwater fish that lives in the lower reaches of large rivers, it spawns at sea though. It eats fine plant material and crustaceans and molluscs. I would like to see your picture Cherry, I have never seen one B4........ |

........ | I think it would be more true to say that it is a sea fish which enters the estuaries.
I often fish for sea trout in a burn that enters the head of a sea loch and for several years I threw spinners, flies and worms at good-sized fish which seasonally cruise in on the tide. It took a long time for me to realise they were mullet. Now that I know them, I often see them mulling around (very weak effort at a pun) in shallow fresh water pools in the burn, with their tails and dorsal fins sticking out of the water. But I doubt if they regularly stray far from the brackish water. |

If you hook a scuba diver you will really be able to say it was {...............this.............} big.
