| | | Pond Clearance Hello everyone, I work for Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire. I have been given the task of clearing out one of our local ponds in one of our parks. I want to cause minimum of damage to plant and pondlife. Are there any basic rules I should be following ? Please note I know nothing ! ! ! |

| | | Re: Pond Clearance Hi Woodhut, Welcome to WAB!
It's good you're so considerate!!
Someone will be along shortly who knows more than I do about it, but a basic net would be OK, skim only the very surface. Dragonflies are still laying eggs now and these would often be picked up as well.
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: Pond Clearance Hi woodhut and welcome,
Is there anyway you could postpone the clearing until Oct/Nov. I have baby newts (efts) in my pond at the moment and they have gills at this time of year and I don't think they will survive out of water yet. I also still have tadpoles that will not live out of the water so the later in the season you can clear it the better. Do you know what wildlife is in the pond.? When you do clean it out remember to leave the vegetation on the side of the pond for a few days to let any pond life crawl back in. |

| | | Re: Pond Clearance Yes I can certainly postpone. But do you realise this means me floundering about in a pond in mid-October ! ! ! never mind, it'll be for a good cause. Thank you very much for your answer. Regards Woodhut | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
