| | | goldfish Hi
We now have 2 baby goldfish in our 3rd pond. Do I need to feed them fish pellets ? I was told that if I don't feed them they will eat snails eggs, blood worms, etc. |

| | | Re: goldfish Not fed the goldfish in my pond for a couple of years. They are still growing. As long as the pond is big enough, and with enough weed, it will have a level of fish life that it can sustain without help. It is, in effect acting as a natural pond |

| | | Re: goldfish The pond has been established for a month and has 2 pots of oxygentators ( 6 bunches in each pot ) Is that enough ? Also have water hyacinth, a potted plant that spreads out over surface of water ( not sure what it is called ) and recently added some watercress. Also have a pump. I just thought maybe I should feed them for awhile until become more established in the pond ? |

| | | Re: goldfish If they are new ie just bought rather than babies ie from this years spawn, Then I would feed them for a while, They will be used to pellet food and will take a while to get used to foraging for bugs. They will need their fat reserves to withstand the winter...

They are very small, about an inch and a half in length. I just assumed that they must be babies because they are so tiny. I have been fgiving them the pelleted food, but they will not come up to eat it. In the 3 days since they arrived they just huddle against one of the plant pots hiding under the weed I don't know if they eat the pellets when they sink. There are no other fish in the pond to frighten them. Is this normal behaviour, are they just taking awhile to settle in ? |
