| | | Basking Shark Spotting Did anyone else see that great picture in todays Telegraph of a Basking Shark swimming alongside people at Porthcurno in Cornwall?
Cownwall Wildlife Trust with SeaWatch are looking for volunteers to spot BSs at Gwennap Head and Carn Gloose near Cape Cornwall - wish I had no commitments, sounds like a fantastic way to spend the summer at the least
Apparently SeaWatch surveys recorded 656 basking sharks from Gwennap Head and six species of whale, dolphin and porpoise last year!!! What I'm wondering is of those 656 how many of them were the ones they saw the day before |

| | | Re: Basking Shark Spotting I didn't see the Telegraph but I did see some of the TV coverage yesterday.
Unfortunately some of this was of the "man eating monster" type of sensationalism rather that recognising that these are gentle giants which eat plankton.
Typical media reporting!

| | | Re: Basking Shark Spotting I haven't seen but have seen them there in the past. Porthcurno and Kennack Sands (Lizard Peninsula) are both good spots for Baskings Porthcurno and surrounding area is a brilliant area to go at any time of year |

Hope they are still there in a couple of weeks time. |

| | | Re: Basking Shark Spotting We see them fairly often in the Firth of Clyde, scary if you don't know what they are as they are so huge.
