Whilst Ctenopharyngodon idella (Grass Carp) will eat some of your blanketweed, you have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of stocking them in your pond. The main two being the sizes they achieve, and the large amount of fish waste that would ensue |

If anyone is following this please note - I bought 3 albino grass carp and they grew into beauties - huge BUT its a catch 22, Yes they eat blanket weed but the waste they produce is handsome nutrition for the blanket weed - in order to keep the food cycle going it makes sense, they will not solve your blanket weed prob. I found this out only 2 years after I had got them. They are now happily rehomed in a friends lake. |

You can buy Citric Acid on Ebay cheaply but use it sparingly and monitor the ph of your pond.
Grass carp will eat bw if there is nothing else available (fish food or other plants). Bw is a coarse plant which would be a last resort for a hungry Crass Carp and the GC have to be quite big to consume enough.
If your BW is out of control then your nitrates are too high and your water too hard. Too much or poor quality fish food and tap water. Change. |
