| | | Amazing! well I think so. In May, I placed a large (suitcase size) plastic container in the shelter of shrubs in the ground so that the top was level with the ground. I placed a few pieces of broken slab to act as shelves and hiding places, then transferred as much water from our patio pool into it till it was full. I added blanket weed, bog bean and a couple of other bits an pieces. (Oh, and replaced the patio pool water with fresh).
The pool remained unchanged for a few week, then out of no-where not only did we get a frog, but a newt as well. The frog we notice comes and goes, almost to the minute. The newt we haven't seen for ages.
BUT, yesterday we saw what we believe is baby newts with front legs and sort of fins. They are about the length of a penny. So far we've seen three. Tomorrow I will add a pic if there is a facility on this site and when I have more time.
Further to all that, under bog bean leaves are globules of clear stuff with black dots in them. Google searches seem to suggest this is newt spawn.
But that's where we are mystified, as we also have lengths of slime with lots of black dots in. Yes, I know you will suggest toad spawn, but I'm told this is in much longer lengths like a shoe lace.
Now it's over to you, any comments, question etc. |

Lets take the last first. Yes the globules DO look like that and yes, we have about 7/8 water snails of varing shapes. So that's the first problem solved I think.
Regarding the lengths of slime with eggs. What I failed to do is state that they are no more than 1" long. I know I said I'd produce some pics, but that will be after I've been out and had time to download them to computer. In no way are they more than 1" long, and the black dots within the slime are in two rows. |

| | | Re: Amazing! well I think so. I only hope I can do this, if so, there should be an underside of bog bean leaves. You will see TWO types of spawn. One is individual globules with a black dot inside, the other type is shorter than an inch with loads of black dots. Maybe you will be able to zoom. I eagerly await your opinions.
I've just noticed that if you Ctrl + +, you can zoom

Is it covered in purple painted footprints
Can you upload them to the archive "forum images" as outside links get removed by the mods. Hopefully they will be bigger and easier to make out. You will probably have to resize them first. Details in the Gallery. |

| | Re: Amazing! well I think so. Hi sorry to bother you , you have newt tadpoles , they have gills untill they get older then can breath out of water , the parents will be under some moist wood somewhere local , a newt only lays a single egg at a time , but lays several in different parts of the oxygenator or pond weed , virtually invisable to see , you have to watch out for dragon fly lava , it will take 1 a day , also the great diving beetle , if it is toad spawn ( which is my guess ) the adults will return and eat the black dots out of the spawn , thats why you cannot have new frogs/toads in a newt pond , they feast on the black dots in the spawn , i was ripping some old decking up yesterday and came across the biggest great crested you have ever seen , across 2 hands , only joined today or i would of took a picture , added today a bit about re-location of newts , cheers Gaz |

Kayleigh. Purple footprints, ha ha ha. What you see is the reflection of the sky in the water. Being new to taking pics like this, I don't know how to avoid it. Gaz has obviously worked it out.

What's all this then?. I have never come across this before. Time hasn't permitted me to browse much of this site, but I'm sure I've seen pics within the posts when I first came across this site. Am I to understand pics have to be inserted elsewhere for consideration by a moderator? if so, what is the reasoning behind that.
As for resizing, it might be useful to know exactly what size is required?. Most sites recommend 320 X 240 which I have used, is that wrong also?.
Phew, what a welcome.
