Pond Filter

Hi everyone we have just started a new wildlife pond which is 3 mtrs x 2 mtrs x 1mtr deep. People have been telling us that we need a filter pump system to keep the pond healthy and to stop it smelling in the summer, is this true as most people who have told us this keep fish in there ponds.

No, wildlife ponds need oxygenating plants to keep the water clean. There are no fish so no fish poo.
Put in a water lily and some yellow flag irises. Don't use tap water to top it up try to use rainwater.

Agree with Kayleigh. My pond is nearly 3 years old now and it's never had a filter, just lots of oxygenating plants and a lily and water hawthorn to shade the surface, crystal clear. I have a waterfall feature which uses a pump to move the water, the birds use it to bathe in
