| | | pond animal vegetable or mineral Hi, I am totally new to ponds and suchlike but my daughter acquired some tadpoles so we decided we would like frogs and the rest resulted in a small preformed pond in the garden. Anyhow I bought an oxygenator plant from the Range in Lancashire and in it was a bit of moss type stuff, I didnt think anything of it and it ended up in the pond.
This mossy thing is moving around the pond and sticking on the wall, when you look down at it it looks like it is sucking stuff of the side. it is a green mossy/grassy type round thing.
Anyone know what it is?
Thank you |

| | | Re: pond animal vegetable or mineral I wonder if your 'thing' is a caddis fly larva which builds a house around itself with whatever it can find. including plant material.
As regards helping them once they have emerged, if you have room in your garden nearish to the pond, you could create a log pile or a rockery type thing providing lots of dark damp crevices that amphibians love. They love invertebrates so avoiding the use of pesticides is good too especially around a pond. |

| | | Re: pond animal vegetable or mineral Many thanks for all the advice so far
I managed a picture but it is not great the thing is only about 1 cm if that
I will look for something for the frogs to use as a hiding place. |

| | | Re: pond animal vegetable or mineral Do you have a sloping side of the pond for your froglets to get out Peom ? Bits of raw chicken or ham are loved by taddies and I would go with everyone's advice about a log pile and some long grass/plants near the pond so they can leave and live safely Good luck
