| | | Great Diving Beetle .... the larvae This is the larvae of the Great Diving Beetle (or so I am told)
This little creature is reputed to be even more ferocious than the adult beetle |

| | | Re: Great Diving Beetle .... the larvae That photo takes me back to when I was a kid and we went pond dipping.I caught one of these and made the fatal mistake of placing it in my jamjar which had 2 sticklebacks in(we always released the creatures we found when we had had a look at them through the glass!)Alas 10 minutes later when I looked at my finds chunks had been taken out of both sticklebacks........ |

| | | Re: Great Diving Beetle .... the larvae well, I have quite a large pond which has many of these creatures, the beetle itself, tadpoles, newts, frogs etc etc. As it is intended as a wild life pond everything is welcomed, ferocious or not. Nature being what it is.
I had a duck and three little ducklings this year. I wonder do they eat these things? Does anybody know what is the beetles greatest threat? |
