| | | frogs and the city I dug a pond in my front garden in London. My house is pretty small and just next to a quietish-for-London road. my mum gave me some frogspawn and the tadpoles are very happy, but I am worried about where the frogs are going to go. If I provide shelter in the form of grasses and logs, will they still want to venture off? Do frogs have an urge to travel?
Thanks for any replies,

| | | Re: frogs and the city They dont have an urge to travel as such but will disperse in the search for new habitats and new food. If you provide log piles, grasses, undergrowth etc they are far more likely to hang around throughout the year, also remember if you can attract their food then you will keep them, things like worms, slugs and other insects.

| | | Re: frogs and the city Welcome, Olivia.
(Love the title!)
In my limited experience, frogs from imported frogspawn disappear over walls as soon as they are big enough, I don't know whether it is to return to the pond from whence the spawn came, or whether they just didn't like me.
The only frog that ever stayed in my last pond was one that inadvertantly got trapped from a small frog behind an accidental wire mesh barrier that fenced and roofed off an area of pond. He vanished once I discovered him and removed the mesh.
In the spring, my local park is covered (for one evening) with frogs making there way down the hill from the woods to the pond.

| | | Re: frogs and the city OK thanks. I just couldn't bear to leave for work one morning and find all of the frogs I have watched grow up squished on the road. I will look at my neighbours' gardens and try to provide whatever they cannot offer - an effort to keep them local. Thanks again for your replies x |

| | | Re: frogs and the city Good luck, Olivia.
At the moment I have a garden full of frogs and toads all waiting for me to dig them a pond, so I am in the reverse situation to you.
I must get out there with my spade.
