pond restoration

hiya thought you might be interested in some pics of a pond i helped to restored, it had been left for 24yrs, you would hardly no it was there i asked the farmer if i could restore it he said yes, i started by cutting down the scrub and trees then the farmer kindly let us have the use of an excavator for three days as you can see by the pics its turned out great, we've stocked it with fish, many birds visit it, seen Grass Snakes kingfishers Water Voles to name a few, i feel very privileged to have been allowed to restore and look after this pond.

Re: pond restoration

thanks galanthus im very lucky the farmer gives me a free hand to manage the wildlife we do shoot on the farm but we are very conservation minded wev'e joined the grey partrige scheme and created some great habitat its a wildlife haven. theres plenty of Brown Hares, breeding barn owls, we had a breeding pair of gargany little egrets hen harriers, marsh harriers, saw a bittern the other day, hobbies breed on the farm, sparrow hawks, sometimes get ringged plovers trying to breed, when i give up shooting or im to old to manage the wildlife im going to try and get a wildlife organisation interested cant bear the thought of someone taking over who just wants it for the shooting

Re: pond restoration

i know its hard to understand but i truely believe if it wasnt for shooting and field sports we would have lost most of are wild places by now, respecting what you hunt is very important
