| | | Monsters and strange fish in Loch Morar 1000ft deep freshwater loch Spoken to a couple of locals, one who has seen the monster close up and thinks it was a huge eel. Another recalls an old man talking about a deep net trawl of the loch in the 1920s or 30s and seeing some strange unidentified fish being brought up. Any thoughts on what fish might live in the deeps and what evidence is there for oversize eels. How might I set about catching one???? maybe not! |

| | | Re: Monsters and strange fish in Loch Morar 1000ft deep freshwater loch I reckon the creature most likely to give rise to the loch ness monster type hysteria is the Sturgeon, These have been reported in many river systems and can grow to a truly prodigeous size.

| | | Re: Monsters and strange fish in Loch Morar 1000ft deep freshwater loch Some guy recently did an analysis of the famous LNM photo from the turn of the century, and worked out that it fetted the dimensions of an elephant's head and trunk almost spot on.
While that's not the first explanation that would maybe come to mind, apparently Inverness used to have a circus around at that time, and they used to let the elephant bathe in the loch... You never know
As far as deep-freshwater animals go, I'll bet there's an awful lot down there that we don't know about. Deep-sea science is still very early on, and there's probably less been done on the freshwater side.
