| | | Re: Unknown Fish from Strangford Lough What a little cracker! I can;t find anything like it in any of my books so I will be interested to hear what it is when someone else knows. I'm pressuming its in breeding coloration - or perhaps diseased?

| | | Re: Unknown Fish from Strangford Lough Absolutely no doubt - a red mullet as Neil said. This one is at rest but they are often seen grubbing in soft ground with two feelers which they reach forward from under their lower jaw to disturb small invertebrates and fish on which they prey. Mainly a summer visitor to UK shores.

NOT SO FAST!
You've got to tell us how on earth you got such a wonderful shot!
Did you pop the wee thing in a tank?
Were you scuba diving with an expensive camera?
Pray tell.... because that surely is a great photograph!
Many thanks!

| | | Re: Unknown Fish from Strangford Lough Just to add, Red mullet is a generic term for several species (Mullidae), so to narrow it down to the exact species this is a Striped Red Mullet Mullus surmuletus looks like a juvenile too.
