| | | leaping Salmon at Stainforth Force Returning home from a few days in the North Pennines, the wife and I called at Stainforth Force (on the River Ribble, just north of Settle) to look for Salmon leaping the falls.
It was awesome! There were stacks of them 'at it' and plenty of big ones too. It is well worth a visit. The Ribble was quite swollen today, which helped them up!
I urge people to go and see this fabulous spectacle!

| | | Re: leaping Salmon at Stainforth Force I also saw this fantastic spectacle for the first time ever yesterday morning - I happened to be at a great site in Scotland.
Sadly my pictures are somewhat lacking, but here you go...
This next one landed pretty much at my feet before falling back down. It wasn't that uncommon to see them hitting the rocks.
Here's two for the price of one.
And finally, to give you an idea of scale... this was the only other person present throughout the time we were there. He is a professional nature photographer.
I've also shot a short video which you can view on this blog: A Luxury Travel Blog ★★★★★ » Salmon leaping at Buchanty Spout, near Crieff, Scotland |

| | | Re: leaping Salmon at Stainforth Force People should be aware that been at a salmon leap or around a spawning area outside the fishing season can result in been asked to leave by bailiffs as these areas can be heavily poached on some rivers.
Often if you are in the sort of position where you are able to observe at close quarters then you are of any public right of way. I know there are many posts on here about the unhelpful attitude of keepers but their work at this time of year is particularly difficult and at times downright dangerous, Poaching is a huge problem. So if you are intending to visit such areas at the weekend please consider your right to be there. and how your presence may be viewed by others..

The Ribble Way goes right past it.

Don't go in June pal, you won't see owt! October is apparently the best month, especially after heavy rain, as it makes the higher falls easier to jump.
You'll have a great time!
