| | | brown trout in pond i built a pond this time last year (summer) and when it was finished i went to my local river and got myself a bucket of soup to put in the pond.
the trouble is i must of collected fish eggs also.
i now have around 12 small fish in my pond. i managed to catch one of them the other day and it looks like a small brown trout
i obviously do not want something like them in my pond but how do i get them out.
i have tried catching them in the net but as soon as you move the net they are off like a shot.
and i don't real want to drain the pond as its fairly large, plus it might affect the other wild life living in it.
any ideas ? |

| | | Re: brown trout in pond I think patience is the key and keep trying with the net or maybe 2 nets. Some other method maybe too disruptive to your other pond life. Cheers

| | | Re: brown trout in pond I'd say that there is a good chance they could be Minnows rather than Brown trout, in which case they won't grow very big at all |

| | | Re: brown trout in pond Something like a minnow trap may catch them, baited with breadcrumbs or similar.Shouldnt affect your other pond life too much either..

| | | Re: brown trout in pond Theyre Minnows not Trout. Still worth removing them though as theyre quite voracious feeders for their small size and would have made an impact on your pond`s insect life had they been left in there.Glad the trap worked

| | | Re: brown trout in pond thank you mark
they have grown at an astonishing rate 2 1/2 to 3 inches in 12 months
i still have a few left in the pond so have left the trap in for now
i would like to keep the insect life so the minnows will have to go.
are there any UK native fish you can put in ponds that are not detrimental to the insect life?
i am not into all these multi coloured fish and the like.
i have two ponds. a small wildlife one and a larger one that i was going to put fish in.
however after seeing dragon flies around the larger one i am changing my mind.
anyway cheers for the info steve | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
