Dolphin Pics in Moray Firth

I saw some great shots in the Daily Mail today (pg 26-27) of hungry bottlenosed dolphins catching wild salmon in the Moray Firth, Scotland. Great photos.
(sorry, I don't know how to provide a link )

Have seen these in the Moray Firth before when going to Scotland birding. Always worth a stop to see. Cheers

Great photos, I especially like the head on airborne one. There was a short film on Coast revisited on Sunday showing them catching salmon in the same area.

Yeah, they're great, aren't they? It looks like that large salmon has decided to jump head first into the mouth of that dolphin?

Re: Dolphin Pics in Moray Firth

Very nice photos,
I've swam with whales and dolphins, mainly Pacific Bottlenose out here in Palau and a failed attempt with Spinners off of south Africa. I've was almost on the receiving end of a slap from the tail of a Sperm Whale, which would have been curtains, in Mexico and had my chest cavity 'investigated' with the sonar of a gang of four male Pilot Whales in the Canary Islands. All incredible encounters, looking into the eye of one of these fascinating beings you can see intelligence, really, who's watching who??

Cheers,
Mark.

Great pictures indeed! I've seen the dolphins myself many times at Chanonry point and on board one of the Dolphin watching trips on the Moray Firth, great fun!

There are some good links to dolphin news and pictures of dolphins by Charlie Philips on the GreaterSpeyside.com web site. Hope this helps others.

Wow, I'm so envious! I know I said I would love to observe wild dolphins (& whales), but to actually swim with them would be fantasic, a dream come true!

Just be careful where you try to swim with whales and dolphins though. In many countries there are rules and interaction guidelines in place, for the most part prohibiting people from getting too close. Good places to go are Tonga, Micronesia and some of the lesser known Pacific Island chains. Off the beaten track I know, but an experience like that is priceless.

Cheers,
Mark.

Re: Dolphin Pics in Moray Firth

Cracking photos at one of the prime Bottle Nosed Dolphin locations around the UK coast.

I have visited Chanonry Point many times on my visits to the Scottish Highlands.

Sightings of the Bottle Nosed Dolphins are almost guaranteed here but photos like these are certainly not as my lack of a decent photo will testify!

Re: Dolphin Pics in Moray Firth

Yes I had the same problem Richard when I visited Chanonry Point. I was very disappointed with my photos of them. In fact I've had more success photographing dolphins at Mwnt, Cardigan Bay.
