| | | marvin the minke back at sea named marvin by the local press, the young minke whale trapped in fraserburgh harbour has finally made it out to open water. marvin had followed a boat into the harbour and now has followed another boat out of the inner harbour where the smaller boats managed to temp him out into open water.
so pleased i was begining to fear the worst.
well done to everyone who gave their time to help.

| | | Re: marvin the minke back at sea That's great news. A busy harbour isn't the healthiest of places for a young Minke to hang out so hopefully he'll have learnt his lesson this time.
We occasionally get them in the Sound near here and a couple of years an adult Minke was washed upon the beach, dead. Amazing (if a bit smelly) experience to get right up close to it. |

It is not often that these situations lead to a happy ending. On this occasion we do have a happy ending.
I remember a few years ago seeing a Minke Whale way offshore off Sumburgh Head in southern Shetland. That is their domain .... the open sea.
Let's hope "Marvin" finds his way to the open sea and has no ill effects from his experience of recent days.

brian. | Oh, thank the heavens Marvin has left the harbour!! I assume his mother was still around, when he finally went back into open water? Yes, I agree with you Humbug, it was a great effort by those who helped. I just hope he has not suffered too much from the effects of his ordeal? |
