| | | Re: Pond Life I certainly used to have quite a few, but haven't seen any for a while, which doesn't mean there not still lurking somewhere! I get real problems with Duckweed; spent nearly an hour this evening in my wellies scooping some off + having to rescue trapped tadpoles, water shrimps, hoglice, etc from what I remove. Trouble is it returns so rapidly! |

| | | Re: Pond Life Hmmm, I love my 2 ramshorn snails and thought they were the only reasonable snails to have as occupants? I have lots of the others and have been annoyed at their love of plants for breakfast, second breakfast etc.

| | | Re: Pond Life I *love* my pond snails too ! and ever since feeding the tadpoles slightly blanched spring greens and lettuce ...the snails all bundle on to it as well and feed untill its gone ...but then you can really get a good look at them eating ...i think they look really cute when their *horns* are out ,and even get to see them well upsidedown ! amazing creature really ...and adding the greens keeps them off eating all the nice plants too ! | | | Re: Pond Life I have a swiss chard growing somewhat randomly beside one of my ponds. Every so often I toss a leaf in for the snails to munch on, otherwise they chew my water hawthorn to shreds!

| | | Re: Pond Life I have newts in my garden and pond snails eat the newt eggs so I hate them!
I put some weed with newt eggs in a fish tank indoors so I could watch them develop, I saw a snail eating an egg |

| | | Re: Pond Life I haven't had much help or hindrance from snails in my pond. The weed problem was an issue until I fitted my UV filter. For some reason that seemed to work wonders as well as 'cleaning' up the water clarity. The snails just mull around and keep my fish entertained | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
