| | Free Goldfish In Essex Hi to all. I've been away from here for so long, and am enjoying reading up on whats been going on.
But...to business. A friend of a friend is clearing and filling in his pond this weekend and I have been 'roped' into finding new homes for his fish. I'm collecting them Saurday morning and they'll go into 3 aerated holding-tanks in my garden, already set up with water from my main pond. They will be treated with anti fungas and parasite medicine, just in case!! I've not seen them, but spoke to the chap earlier today, and he says they are all goldfish, of varying size and colour, and some are at least 10yrs old. He has never bought any fish, and they were in the pond when he bought the house, 10 yrs ago. I pressume they have bred, hence the varying sizes.
So...if anybody living close enough to Basildon, in Essex, with an already established fish pond, wants some, and has the room, and can collect, then please get in touch. You can PM me for my phone number. I am sorry, and please dont be offended, but I can't let them go to a 'new' un-established pond, as this would probably be a death sentence. I would love to keep them myself, but will soon be needing to rehome dozens of last years fry.
Many thanks...(and I hope this post doesn't break the rules) |

| | | Re: Free Goldfish In Essex I live in Basildon but unfortunately my second floor flat comes without an " established fish pond" .
I hope that your friend finds a good home for the goldfish.

| Hi..thanks for the suggestion, but as rlchew may be able to confirm, the more reputable higher quality water life centers around the Basildon area are very reluctant to accept fish from the public, because of the very real risk of disease. Even though I will, at my own expense, give these fish the same treatment I give my own fish every March ( a very good AND expensive treatment), it's a risk they don't want to take. It's my beleif they pay peanuts for their stock anyway, so although they would be free, they still don't want them. The only local fish center that will take anything always has more dead fish floating about than you can poke a stick at! I would never buy anything there!...let alone give them fish.
Thanks again, but I think this idea may be a Red Herring.... ...oh dear

| | | Re: Free Goldfish In Essex Hi again
Good news..the fish...all 40-odd, including Sarasas. comets, reds, oranges, yellows, whites, all over 8inches long, and all in fantastic condition, are all now swimming happily in their new ponds. Some of the fantails were the best I've seen. The previous owner really didn't realise just how wonderful his fish were. I wish I could have kept them myself.
I still have loads of last years fry, all around 1-2 inches, which will be ready in a month or 2, and I'll re-post then to see if anyone can help with rehoming. |

| | | Re: Free Goldfish In Essex Hello
I am looking for some goldfish, roach, tench etc., to boost the largish pond that I look after on a Sheltered Housing Scheme in Basildon. I have lost some from herons but have been taking precautions to deter them.
Would you have any that I can take off your hands please?
I saw from a later post that you have found a home for some but am hoping you may have some more!
