| | Have you noticed rural litter I am fed up to the hind teeth with the amount of litter thrown from cars on rural roads. I live by a to lane rural road between two towns ( Taunton and Ilminster) but the road is used as a short cut ( rat run,) between the A303 and the A 358. Here by starts a tale of Mcdonalds and other fast food litter dumped on the side of the road I have watched the council workers clear littler from the A358 and pass the back roads by.
It would be interesting to know what it's like in other parts of the country and if it seem to have got worse of late..

| | | Re: Have you noticed rural litter I was walking under the A40 yesterday lunchtime, lots of rubbish on the banks of the road. I imagine a lot of this has been there a long time as no-one ever cleans up down there. This is what it looks like under the A40:

| | | Re: Have you noticed rural litter It's not just rural roads - it's urban streets, mptorways, roads in general. There's a certain type of motorist who thinks that the road is a waste disposal unit. They probably have no thoughts about the wider world, just their own little compartment. |

| | | Re: Have you noticed rural litter It always amuses me that those strimming the verges strim the rubbish as well, so one piece of litter ends up as ten pieces!

why not send a person a head with a rake to clear the litter before commencing strimming or mowing the verges
the contractors should be fined for creating more litter and forced to take on extra workers instead of cutting corners

| | | Re: Have you noticed rural litter Any litter along our roads, certainly within the National Park, is regularly cleared by council workers. Verges and banks are strimmed. Overhanging branches and scrub is constantly being cleared.
In my little village local groups maintain the village lay-by's, the station car-park, plant shrubs and flowers , install seats etc. Because of this, litter is far less than I have seen in other areas.
I have to say I am proud of the way our local area is maintained. A pity to hear that this is not the same in other areas of the country

Dorts. | You are very lucky. I wish we could get the local council to do the same but the cry is always "there is no money" and as for the villagers they think there is someting wrong with me for picking litter along the lane where I live...

It is quite upsetting and our beaches are going the same way...
