| | | Re: Rubbish bag rationing in Bristol and a few other places i have lived you had one wheelie bin taken every two weeks as standard, if you managed to produce more landfill waste than this you could pay for it to be collected or take it to the local refuse collection site yourself
never understood why some folk drive out into the country side to fly tip when closer to their own postcode will often be a waste centre they could take it

Come end of term/academic year in a student area you'd find the students dumping it in other peoples' bins. Or thinking it was great fun to make other residents end up paying for their rubbish by deliberately dumping their rubbish in others bins ... almost as much fun as knocking over every wheelie bin, or breaking off every wing mirror ... |

If you are a business/trade you have to pay at the dump, can't dispose of it there for free. Trade waste disposal is expensive these days - landill tax. And it can be tricky if you use your work van to take your own personal stuff to the dump. |

| | | Re: Rubbish bag rationing North Yorkshire council seem quite accommodating here, but its only right that if you are claiming to be a waste carrier you pay the correct land fill tax or face prosecution if you are caught flouting the rules, its unfortunate customers are also in line for prosecution, but if they make the judgement choice to use a firm that seems to be miles cheaper then the competition then they should expect them to not be above board.
when i was living in Cornwall there were warnings that the county was all most out of room to dump waste and lorries were going up to near Swindon to dump. There is limited space in the ground to dump the excess waste we all produce and if we dont start reusing more things instead of hoping things might get recycled then people will have to accept more incinerators being constructed to deal with the issue.

| | | Re: Rubbish bag rationing wow there are still councils handing them out, when the wheelie bin arrived many years ago the weekly supply of bags stopped for us

| | | Re: Rubbish bag rationing I haven't lived anywhere that uses bags for a very long time. The use of bags for rubbish by councils that also promote recycling does make sense to me. Never mind rationing them, why not just do away with bags?
