| | | Re: PULP - Fruit There was an item on Countryfile on this topic (yesterday) where a farmer was using apple pulp, obtained from a commercial apple juice company, as a supplementary feed for pigs & other livestock.
It was said to be a very beneficial source of food for the animals. (If the footage on TV was anything to go by, they couldn't get enough of the stuff).
Regards,
Mike. |

The deer had it right off the baking tray that I have wedged into the wall.
My neighbour just knocked on the door to tell me that she has been watching them.

I also watched this...i was led to beleive that apple pips contained small amounts of cyanide and was toxic if eat in large amounts? Probably another myth? as those animals relished their meal, they certainly would not come back for seconds if it where making them ill.
Hi Boddie, in the unlikely event you ever get fed up of feeding it to the Deer you could always make fruit leather. |

| | | Re: PULP - Fruit its true about apple pips being toxic (and also peach stones, yew berries and allsorts of other stuff) but most animals dont digest them, they just come out the other end - which is why you get bird and mamal donated seedlings growing in your garden

| | | Re: PULP - Fruit Just a few thoughts Boddie.
Not sure of the nutritious value of pulp, and I suppose the efficiency of your juicer will determine how wet or dry the pulp, is but the main bulk will be fibre I should think.
As you say the deer like it!
I have read of people who put carrot pulp out for the birds, which appears to go down quite well. Perhaps you can add the pulp to a fat cake mix for the birds. I have also read that others compost it.
I would probably feed it to our chickens! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
