| | | Composting toilets We have planning to replace our delapidated timber chalet with a new timber frame home. As we have a blanket tree preservation order on the site we are looking at another way of trying not to site a septic tank as tree roots are in the way. We have an old soakaway which is too close to the new build and can no longer be used.
I have researched state of the art composting toilets and wonder if any WAB people have one?
Any ideas/sewage treatment plant knowledge would be greatly received. Thanks.

| | | Re: Composting toilets Back in the 70s the family were reduced to using a bucket in place of a toilet for 6 weeks whilst waiting for repairs.
I dug a couple of deep holes at the far end of the back garden and gradually filled them. I'd started on the third dig when in desperation I wrote to the M.O.H. How pleased I was when the offending pipework was repaired the very next day.
I planted my favourite rose trees (Fragrant Dawn) on the pits and was surprised to see them a few months later absolutely laden with flowers. They flourished and were admired for many years.
I don't know if this is a help to you as I know very little about septic tanks. Do they contain chemicals? If so, it might not be the thing to do. |

| | | Re: Composting toilets Yes, if you're doing a big rebuild then this is the ideal time to put in a chemical-free toilet. We, sadly, didn't have the space or money (it meant digging a big hole into millstone grit!) to go for composting toilet but, geology allowing, it is an excellent thing to do.
There's information at: CAT Information Service
... and I'm sure they'll be happy to give further assistance. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
